ºÚÁÏÉç announces campus holiday energy conservation plan 

ºÚÁÏÉç will implement its holiday energy conservation plan at the end of the workday today [Dec. 19].

The Christmas break affords us the opportunity to reduce energy consumption and realize significant savings on operating expenditures. Efforts over the years to turn off unused equipment and lighting are absolutely critical to a successful holiday shutdown. Please join with us in reducing energy use during this time.

For those that come into work at times during the break, please turn off computers, lights, radios and any other energy-consuming devices when you leave. If you have trouble locating any switches, contact Facilities Management at 662-325-2005.

Remember to check devices and equipment in out-of-the-way places and common areas, which may include classrooms, restrooms, storage closets, lobbies and lounges.

Building managers and building operators should ensure that all interior and exterior lights are turned off.

Additionally, all responsible parties should be aware of exposed piping that could be subject to freezing during the shut-back period.  Please notify your building manager or building operator if you see any area that needs to be protected. Contact Facilities Management at 325-2005 with any building issues if discovered and perceived urgent.  

Heating and cooling settings for holiday breaks should be addressed by the appropriate facility personnel. Some buildings are centrally controlled by Facilities Management, which will implement the appropriate temperature setbacks. In the remaining areas, the building operator should set the thermostat to the minimum setting, making sure that the system is not in cooling mode.

If you have questions or concerns about the temperature setbacks in your building, please contact Facilities Management at 325-2005.  As these building setpoints are centrally managed by Facilities Management, no individual actions should be taken with regard to temperature settings.

Note that all athletics facility setbacks will be coordinated by Athletics personnel, and all student housing setbacks will be coordinated by Housing personnel. In all other buildings, building operators should set the thermostat to the minimum setting, making sure that the system is not in cooling mode.
